The client's brief was to combine workshops, laboratories and offices in buildings which were attractive and eye catching. The designers took up this challenge and achieved a structure of the highest quality in both design and construction.
Only steel could satisfy the needs of the designers, incorporating curved and linear elements in such a creative form.

Bati Tourism Centre, Istanbul, TR

The main theme of the Bati park is 'entertainment in nature'. Being indoors this piece of man-made nature needed a man-made sky - a glazed vault. The main structural elements of this vault were created as diagonal trusses with a geometrically uniform rigidity. To achieve efficient fabrication and erection through mass production these trusses had to be built from standard segments of fixed depth. The result is an amazingly light, elegant and economic structure with lazily twisting arches.

This three-dimensional structure, built in a circle with a diameter of 140 m, is one of the biggest free-span indoor sports arenas in Europe. Due to a low fire load, big open compartment and the height of the sportshall, no applied fire protection was required for the steel structure. The whole structure was painted to give corrosion protection guaranteed for 15 years. The natural daylight plays lightly on the painted steel structure and creates an internal environment of high quality.
